There is a pharmacy department on both the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital sites which provide an integrated pharmaceutical service to the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals.

The departments provide a range of services including:

• Providing a medicines supply service for all the wards, departments and clinics in the hospital
• Dispensing medicines for all inpatients including medication to take home on discharge
• Dispensing prescriptions for outpatients who are being treated by the hospital
• Preparing sterile doses of medicines, particularly anti-cancer drugs
• Checking prescribed drug treatment to ensure the dosages are correct, that one drug will not adversely affect the action of another, that the drug is given in the most suitable way and is the most appropriate drug for the patient and their condition or illness
• Providing clinical advice and training on the safe use of medicines to doctors, nurses, midwives and other healthcare staff
• Providing information and advice to patients about their drug treatment
• Purchasing of all the drugs used within the Trust
• Maintaining an evidence based trust Formulary
