BEFORE YOUR VISIT
You might come to hospital because:
– You don’t feel very well,
– You need to have a test or examination,
– You need to have an operation,
– You have had an operation and we want to make sure you are better.
If you have any questions about coming to hospital, you can ask us or your parents or carers.
What is the hospital like?
You might go to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford or the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The Princess Royal Hospital is really long..
and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is really tall!
There are lots of signs to show you where you are and where you need to go. The hospital can be busy but if you get lost or can’t find where you need to go – don’t worry! – just ask a member of staff for help.
There are four main children’s areas. These are:
A&E
A&E stands for Accident and Emergency.
You might go here if you have hurt yourself or are sick and need treatment quickly.
People sometimes go to A&E in an ambulance. This means they need help quickly.
INPATIENTS
If you are coming to the hospital to stay overnight, you will come as an inpatient.
Your parent or carer will be able to stay with you.
We have a play room, outside play area, adolescent room and school room to keep you busy while you stay in hospital!
OUTPATIENTS
If you are coming to hospital for the day but don’t need to stay the night, you will come as an outpatient.
You will get a letter from the hospital to tell you and your parent/carer where you need to go.
CHILDREN’S ASSESSMENT UNIT
If you need to talk to a doctor or nurses or have some tests, you will come to the Children’s Assessment Unit.
You might be given some medicine before you go home to help make you feel better.
