Delivery Suite

Ward 24, also known as the Delivery Suite, is on the first floor of the Women and Children’s Centre in the Princess Royal Hospital, in Telford.

The ward is where women with a high-risk management plan are advised to birth. These tend to be people who are under consultant care, although it could also be through maternal choice or transfer during labour from a midwife-led-setting or homebirth.

The ward itself is made up of 13 en suite delivery rooms which includes an ultrasound scan room, a pool room, and a bereavement room. The ward has two obstetric theatres and a recovery area.

All women and birthing people receive one-to-one midwife care during established labour.

All the rooms on Delivery suite have a bed, bedside table, en suite toilet and shower and neonatal resus equipment, a buzzer system and an emergency call bell. All rooms have lights that can be adjusted to low lighting, as well as new reclining chairs for birth partners. Information on what pain relief options are available can be found here.

Room 5 also has a large birthing pool and fairy lights on the ceiling. Should you wish to use a birthing pool then please ask for this when you call up to let us know you are in labour, so we can get this prepared for you. This will depend on availability of the pool and your clinical needs.

Each room also has a board to display your birth preferences, so that anyone coming into the room will know what your preferences are. More information on the Birth Preferences Card can be found here

We encourage people to have support partners on the ward. This can be two people of your choice, however only one will be allowed if there is a need to go into theatre.

The Delivery Suite line can be called if you are booked for a homebirth, so the co-ordinator can ring the on-call community Midwife if labour has commenced, or your membranes have ruptured (bag of waters around baby).
