A cleanliness technician will be taking on the Birmingham Half Marathon to raise funds to help patients on her ward.
Keen runner and fundraiser Shirley Thomas, of Shrewsbury, is hoping to drum up between £300 and £400 for Ward 24 (Cardiology and Endocrinology) at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
She will take on the 13.1 mile challenge on October 14, and it will be the third time she will have taken part in the event.
Shirley, who has worked at SaTH for three years, said: “Last year I did the half marathon to raise funds for those with Alzheimer’s. This year, I would like to raise around £400 for Ward 24, so they can purchase some extra digital ear thermometers.
“I have been in training to prepare myself for the marathon, and I am really looking forward to it – although my colleagues on the ward think I am mad for doing it!”
