A volunteer at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) has been shortlisted for an award to thank her for her efforts in helping to improve end of life care.
Jules Lock has been shortlisted in the Volunteer of the Year Category in the Shropshire Star’s Great Big Thank You Awards.
Jules has been the lead End of Life care volunteer at the trust which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, for just over four years.
The former teacher from Montgomery was motivated to help improve end of life care following the death of her husband David.
Jules said: “I was overwhelmed to hear I had been shortlisted for this award; it is such an honour.
“I think it reflects all of the work that we are doing at SaTH in end of life care. This nomination is not about me, it is about the whole team and the work we are doing to try to make a difference.”
Jules was nominated by Jules Lewis, End of Life Care Facilitator at SaTH, who said her namesake had made an amazing difference over that time.
Jules said: “She gives up hours a week to support our service, and she also supports me with the volunteer training programme.
“She is just amazing, she comes in at least once a week and usually more. She visits wards, making sure they have the needed equipment at the hardest of times.”
She said Jules had helped her rewrite a bereavement book for NHS managers. Jules Lock also helped her Jules Lewis arrange the latest, highly successful End of Life Care Conference at SaTH, giving up weekends for preparations and on-the-day support, when 120 people from SaTH and other health and care organisations attended.
Jules said: ““She is just the best, a fabulous lady. She has turned such a sad personal experience into improving end-of-life-care for all.”
Voting in the awards can be done by collecting tokens printed in the Shropshire Star, or online at www.starthankyou.shropshirestar.co.uk
