A heart doctor who completed the Shrewsbury Half Marathon to raise money to buy equipment for Shropshire’s acute hospitals is to take on his latest challenge on the streets of London.
Dr Jayesh Makan, a Consultant Cardiologist at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), will take in some of the capital’s most well-known buildings when he takes part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday (24 March).
The event will see 10,000 runners start on Pall Mall and finish by Downing Street, taking in fabulous views of London’s most iconic landmarks including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye along the way.
Jayesh will be raising money for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). He was recently appointed a trustee of the charity and earlier in his career was a research fellow funded by CRY.
Jayesh said: “CRY raises awareness of sudden cardiac death in young individuals as well as providing support to families affected by the various conditions.
“The charity has been able to carry out cardiac screenings thanks to fundraising from families and schools in Shropshire.
“They also fund world class research into the field directed by Professor Sanjay Sharma at St George’s Hospital London.”

Jayesh, who is also Clinical Director for Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine at SaTH, last year ran the Shrewsbury Half Marathon to raise money for the SaTH Charity, which supports the work of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. It was the first time he had tackled the 13.1 mile distance in over 10 years.
