A contemporary coffee shop is to open at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH).
Caffé Bistro will replace the current Coffee City, situated near the Outpatients department, which opened in the hospital more than a decade ago.
Coffee City has been temporarily closed to undergo its transformation into Caffé Bistro, which will provide improved, more accessible facilities for patients, staff and visitors. On offer will be a wider menu of grab & go food and drink, including barista-style coffee.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) which runs the RSH and Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford, already operates a Caffé Bistro in the atrium in the Women and Children’s Unit at PRH. It has proved a huge success since opening in 2014 and was recently awarded a 5* for cleanliness. Both Caffé Bistros will be self-funding.
Nick Parkin, Senior Catering Manager at SaTH, said: “Coffee City opened its doors for the first time 11 years ago and quickly became a popular outlet for enjoying quality coffee, sandwiches and cakes. However, the time has come for us to refresh and refurbish Coffee City into our new successful brand, Caffé Bistro.
“This is a very exciting development for the Trust, and one that will greatly benefit our patients, visitors and our staff. Not only will it provide high quality food and drink, Caffé Bistro is also self-funding, paid for by the revenue it generates – so any extra income made goes directly back into Trust funds.”
While Coffee City is closed for the three week redevelopment, the nearby Mytton Restaurant will be open from 8.30am until 7pm every day. An additional coffee machine will also be available in the restaurant throughout the duration of the closure to minimise any queuing.
