The author behind the Ironbridge Ogre – a book created to celebrate Telford’s 50th birthday – has donated 25 copies to the Children’s Oncology Ward at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH).
Toni Sian Williams wrote and illustrated the book, a children’s mythical story book set in the heart of Telford. Toni, who is also the illustrator of local legendary tale ‘The Wrekin Giant’, donated the books to The Harry Johnson Trust for the children on the ward.
Toni has just chosen The Harry Johnson Trust as its charity – donating £1 from the sale of each book to the Trust which supports the families of children and teenagers who are undergoing treatment for cancer, and who are being cared for by the children’s oncology team at the PRH.
Sally Johnson, for The Harry Johnson Trust, joined Toni to deliver the books to Children’s Play Practitioner Lisa Harries and teacher Tracey Caldicott at the ward at PRH, run by the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH).
Toni said: “What I wanted to do was produce a book that would allow me to be able to give something back. So I thought I would donate £1 from every book sold to local charities. For the next few months, that charity will be The Harry Johnson Trust. From the smallest of items to individual tailored support, the Trust gives so much love in so many countless ways for families going through these difficult times.
“Over the next few months we will be working with Sally and hoping to raise as much as possible to go towards the Trust. We have also donated 25 books for them to give out to children on the Oncology Ward.”
Sally said: “These really are fabulous books, which are beautifully illustrated for children. We are so grateful to Toni for choosing The Harry Johnson Trust. Every bit of help we receive goes on to help the children who are undergoing treatment for cancer on the oncology unit, and their families.”
Lisa Gilks, Children’s Oncology Ward Manager at SaTH, said: “We would like to thank Toni for this lovely donation of books for the children on our ward. It is a wonderful gesture, and the children will be absolutely delighted to receive one.”
