We asked you to nominate a hospital hero from our Trust who had gone the extra mile for the Shropshire Star Public Recognition Award and you sent us in some fantastic contenders – we have now whittled it down to three finalists.

The Public Recognition Award is part of our Trust’s Celebratory Awards and is the only category that patients, families and members of the public can nominate and vote for in the awards.

We teamed up with the Shropshire Star for the third year running for the award, which recognises teams or individuals who have made a remarkable contribution and show exceptional compassion and dedication in their role.

The three finalists for the Shropshire Star Public Recognition Award are:

Janice Llewellyn, Children’s Oncology and Haematology Nurse; Ward 24, Respiratory, and the Lingen Davies Centre.

Janice’s nomination described her as the best specialist nurse ever; the nominee for Ward 24 said the staff go above and beyond to help everyone and staff at the Lingen Davies Centre were described as amazing.

Good luck to all the finalists as they are all very worthy of the nomination. I know it has meant so much to previous winners that they are recognised by you, so if you could spare the time please find out about the finalists and cast your vote online at https://trustawards.co.uk/shropshirestar

The deadline to vote is Friday 25 October and the winner will be announced at the Trust’s Celebratory Awards on Friday 15 November.

We recently had more than 240 people come along to our Maternity services open day at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford with 80 turning up in the first hour.

The event was held so that mums-to-be and their families could attend a tour, visit community stalls and find out more about the maternity services on offer at PRH.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to organise this great event and thank you for the feedback of those that attended – visitors commented on how engaging the staff were and how reassured they felt after attending, and there were some great suggestions about future events.

This week, I had the pleasure of officially opening a multi-faith room at PRH which has been recently transformed for patients, visitors and staff.

As well as investing in growing the chaplaincy service to become a multi-faith team, the Trust is also creating spaces where people of all faiths and beliefs are welcome and supported.

I would like to say a big thank you to the chaplaincy team and to everyone who has worked so hard on creating such a warm and welcoming place – for all.

If you are passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), we would encourage you to join our EDI Advocates Group.

As a member of the EDI Advocates Group, you would work collaboratively to support and challenge SaTH in identifying existing health inequalities and develop action plans to tackle and eliminate such issues.

The ultimate aim is to ensure everyone at our Trust has a great patient experience, no matter their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity.

If you would like more information, or an application form, please contact my colleague Claire Eagleton (Claire.eagleton@nhs.net) Lead Nurse/ Allied Health Professions (AHP) for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
