A 100-mile charity cycle ride has raised £455 for the Cardiac Rehab Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Former patient George Palmer completed the event – known as Cockney Croc’s Cardiac Cycle Challenge – over two days in May and this week presented the cheque to staff on the Cardiac Rehab Unit as a thank you for the care he received following open heart surgery in 2013.
He said: “I wanted raise funds for the team in recognition of the care they gave me. They are only a small team but they are all extremely dedicated and were instrumental in my recovery.”
The charity cycle ride started in Stoke and finished in Shrewsbury. On the first day George pedaled to Hodnett, via Stone, Eccleshall and Cheswardine. On day two he cycled from Hodnett to Shrewsbury via Wem, Ellesmere and Baschurch.
George, who lives in Shrewsbury, added: “My family and I are extremely grateful to everyone at the Cardiac Rehab Unit at RSH and everyone who sponsored me.
“I already have plans for another charity cycle ride next year, so watch this space!”
