Community Diagnostic Centre is improving access to tests and scans.

Patients across Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin (STW) are already seeing a huge benefit of a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) which opened its doors October 2023.

The new facility, located in Stafford Park, Telford, means that patients who need non-urgent diagnostic tests or blood tests no longer need to go to a hospital for them.

The investment is for all residents of STW and will improve access to a wide range of diagnostic tests in a location that is separate from the acute sites, meaning elective diagnostic tests will be delivered away from the acute hospital sites and separately from urgent diagnostic scans, therefore helping to maintain planned activity and protected from the operational pressures of urgent and emergency care.

It will reduce waiting times for non-urgent tests and reduce the risk of cancellation, improving patient experience and outcomes, whilst at the same time bring more capacity into the system to reduce pressure on other services.

Services will include:

  • CT (a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around the body)
  • Non-Obstetric Ultrasound Scans (non-invasive scans)
  • X-Ray
  • MRI
  • Electrocardiograms (ECG)
  • Basic Sleep Studies
  • Lung Functioning Tests
  • Echocardiogram (ECHO)
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring
  • Spirometry
  • Teledermatology (pictures of skin conditions)
  • Phlebotomy (blood tests)

Patients can book their blood test online at www.sath.nhs.uk/bloodtests or by calling the booking line on 01743 492510, Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm, excluding weekends and bank holidays.
