This week, we have seen sunshine and rising temperatures with the warm weather set to carry on into the weekend. With such weather, I would like to remind you and those that you care for to follow guidance.
Our advice to you during this hot weather is to keep safe by drinking plenty of fluids, staying in the shade and limiting strenuous activity. Please also look out for people who might struggle to keep cool.
You may have read about the changing role of professionals in GP practices across the UK. GP practices have changed and there are now more health experts available to help you.
Your GP practice has been joined by additional highly trained and qualified healthcare professionals to make sure you get the support and treatment you need, as part of a national recovery plan to improve access for patients.
Across the county, there is now approximately 250 additional staff within GP practice teams, which include receptionists, physician associates, nursing associates, care coordinators, physiotherapists, paramedics, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, health and wellbeing coaches and social prescribing link workers.
This means that when you next contact your GP practice you may be given an appointment with a specialist who can help you, as opposed to your GP.
If you are given an appointment with a member of the wider team you will receive specialist care, and this will free up GPs to tend to patients with complex health needs.
Good luck to nine colleagues from the Trust who are taking part in the Lake Vyrnwy half marathon on Sunday 17 September to raise funds for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) Charity.
They will be representing various teams and are supporting several of the funds under the SaTH Charity umbrella, so they can support an area or service within the hospital that is close to their heart.
Nigel Lee, Interim Director of Strategy and Partnership, alongside Andrew Davies, Niall Fry and Stu Johnson from Medical Engineering Services, are all raising funds for our cancer services.
The half marathon is one of a series of events for Nigel leading up to a trek to Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2024. He is planning the trek with his son Tom who is now a serving RAF officer in Scotland.
This week, I joined other judges to shortlist the nominations for The Shropshire Star Recognition Award, part of our upcoming Trust Celebratory Awards. There were some fantastic nominations put forward by you, Shropshire Star readers, and it really was a difficult task.
Our finalists have now been selected and a public vote will take place. You will be given the opportunity to choose your winner, so please keep an eye out in the Shropshire Star and online to see how to cast your vote.
The winner will be announced at our virtual staff awards in November.
