Maxine Mawhinney, a former BBC journalist and news reporter, is the new Co-Chair of the Ockenden Report Assurance Committee, taking over from the outgoing Co-Chair, Jane Garvey.
The Ockenden Report Assurance Committee (ORAC), a monthly live-streamed meeting, was set up in 2021 to obtain and provide assurance in relation to the delivery, evidence, sustainability and impact of the implementation of the actions arising from the first and final independent reviews into maternity services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
Maxine, an experienced journalist, will be taking over from Jane at today’s committee meeting. Jane Garvey, a British broadcaster and former presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour, has Co-Chaired the Ockenden Report Assurance Committee since it began in early 2021. Jane brought a curious and enquiring approach in her role as Co-Chair, enabling thoughtful and reflective discussion as well as a willingness to delve into challenging areas. Catriona McMahon, Chair of SaTH, who Co-Chaired the committee alongside Jane thanked her for her support and contribution over the past year.
ORAC committee members include the Trust’s Chief Executive, Louise Barnett, and representatives from partner organisations, including Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Maternity Voices Partnership, Powys Community Health Council, NHSE/I, the Integrated Care Board and Healthwatch.
The next Ockenden Report Assurance Committee is due to be held today, Tuesday 22 November, at 2.30pm. Information on the meeting and how to join can be found here.
