The Trust that runs Shropshire’s two acute hospitals has hosted an event to bring together Insulin Pump patients living with Type 1 Diabetes.
‘The Severn Pumpers Annual Meeting’ is a patient support and networking event that sees Insulin Pump company representatives sharing information and innovations and patients sharing their experiences of Diabetes and pump therapy. This year’s event took place on Friday at Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium and was attended by more than 130 people.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), which runs The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, provides a specialist Insulin Pump service for over 200 people in the local community. This cutting edge technology is NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) approved for people with Type 1 Diabetes who often struggle with hypo/hyperglycaemia. Insulin Pump therapy allows the user to adjust insulin delivery settings in order to safely manage any daily activities.
Dr Probal Moulik, Clinical Director in Endocrinology, said “It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction to me to see such differences made to our patients’ lives through our collaboration, technical knowhow and, most importantly, the dedication of our team. This is technological advancement, patient empowerment and clinical pragmatism at its very best,”
Erica Richardson, Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse and Marie Jones, Diabetes specialist Nurse at SaTH said: “These sessions are used to share good practice and support each other. We are very blessed to have such a wonderful group of patients that are engaged in all aspects of their care. We are extremely proud of the positive feedback we receive from all our patients/pump users, external service providers and company representatives”
The Severn Pumpers group was founded by patients in order to provide support for each other with clinicians on-hand to provide advice and guidance.
