The main Outpatients entrance at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has closed. The new main entrance is now at the Treatment Centre. Due to construction on site please allow extra time and plan your journey. Find your nearest car park to your clinic.

Evolution Road will be closed from Friday 15 November – Tuesday 19 November at the junction near our estates building.

You will only be able to access Car Park 3 from the Evolution Road entrance.

Once inside our hospital, please follow the internal signage, look out for site maps to help you, and if you are unsure of where to go please ask a member of staff or a volunteer who will be happy to help. There are disabled car parking in each of the car parking zones, with the largest number of disabled spaces in car park zone 2.

Car parking zone 0

Car parking zone 0 is the first car park on the right as you enter the hospital off Mytton Oak Road. Please use this car parking zone for:

Copthorne Building: Ophthalmology/Eye department and Urgent Eye Clinic, Ward 35 (Renal), Children’s Outpatients, Supported Discharge (Ward 18) – there are a small number of drop-off only spaces outside the Copthorne Building.
Mytton Oak House: Antenatal Clinics, Emergency Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS)

Car parking zone 1

This car parking zone is located opposite the ward block and is the closest car park to the following services:

Emergency Department: There is a drop-off car parking space outside our Emergency Department. Only use this entrance for the Emergency Department, as there is no access for Outpatient appointments at this entrance.

Ward Block (entrance 1): Wards 21 – 28, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), O’Connor Unit Haematology Unit, PALS (Patient Advice & Liaison Service)

Car parking zone 1 is most appropriate for Lingen Davies Centre, Hamar Centre and Macmillan Support Centre, which are located in separate buildings and have separate signposted entrances.

Car parking zone 2

Car parking zone 2 provides the largest volume of patient/visitor car parking and allows access to all of the services/departments located within the main hospital building through the Treatment Centre.

Please use this car parking zone for:

Treatment Centre (entrance 2): Outpatients (Clinics 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 (Clinical Trials), 12), Fracture Clinic and Plaster Room, Diagnostics, Assessment and Access to Rehabilitation and Treatment (DAART), Day Surgery Unit and Elective Surgery Hub, Discharge lounge, Endoscopy, Critical Care (ITU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU), X-ray and Imaging Departments, Ward 33, Ward 34 and Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), Ward 32 Trauma and Orthopaedics, Ward 37

Renal Dialysis Unit and Hummingbird (Diabetes) Centre: Please use signposted (Hummingbird) entrance. Parking for dialysis patient is available within car parking zone 2.

Car parking zone 3

A new entrance and car park has been created (Entrance 3, Evolution Road) on the west side of the hospital. This entrance is located around the back of the site, past the Treatment Centre. This is the most appropriate entrance and car parking for basement level services, which are:

  • Pharmacy
  • Outpatients (Clinics 5, 6, 7, 8 Cardio-respiratory)
  • Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Clinics
  • Bereavement Suite

Car parking zone 3 is most appropriate for the Evolution Scanning Suite which is located in a separate building and has a separate signposted entrance.

  1. To the North of the hospital on the Welshpool Road is the Oxon Priory Stop. This is a 10 minute walk to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, (steps involved) Oswestry to Shrewsbury. Travelling by Train

Shrewsbury Train Station is situated in the centre of Shrewsbury.

It is approximately three minutes walk (200 metres) to Shrewsbury Bus Station (see above). It is approximately 15 minutes drive (two miles) to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Taxis are available from outside the station.

Trains from all over the country, including Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Powys, stop at Shrewsbury Train Station:

  • Cambrian Line to Welshpool, Newtown, Caersws and stations to Aberystwyth & Pwllheli
  • Chester/Wrexham/Shrewsbury line to Gobowen, Chirk and stations to Chester & Holyhead
  • Crewe-Shrewsbury line to Yorton, Wem, Prees, Whitchurch and stations to Crewe & Manchester
  • Marches Line to Church Stretton, Ludlow and Hereford.
  • Shrewsbury-Wolverhampton line to Wellington, Telford, Shifnal, Cosford, Albrighton and stations to Wolverhampton, Birmingham and London
  • Trains from Telford station can take approximately 20-25 minutes

Walking or cycling
If you live nearby and are fit and well, we encourage you to walk or cycle to our hospitals. The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is approximately two miles from the town centre or Shrewsbury railway station. There are excellent cycle routes leading to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital using the quieter or residential roads nearby.

Bicycle Parking
The trust provides “Sheffield” style cycle parking stands racks which are situated around the hospital grounds including covered sheltered  bicycle parking. These shelters are located near the  Emergency Department entrance, North & South of the Ward Block (entrance 1), nr Shropdoc.  Uncovered Sheffield stands cycle parking  are also located next to the Treatment Centre (entrance 2) and Learning Centre.

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is conveniently located near the A5-B4386 junction on the west of Shrewsbury.  From this roundabout follow signs to Shrewsbury and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The hospital is located 0.8 miles ahead on your left via a small roundabout.

From the East (Birmingham M6)

  • at Junction 10a join the M54 (signposted North & Mid Wales, Telford )
  • at Junction 7 the M54 becomes the A5
  • at first roundabout (Junction with A49) take 1st exit (signposted North Wales, Oswestry)
  • at next roundabout (Junction with A5064/B4380)  take 2nd exit (stay on A5)
  • at next roundabout (Junction with A49/A5112) take 3rd exit (stay on A5)
  • at next roundabout (Junction with A488 ) take 2nd exit (stay on A5)

  • follow the A483 past Wrexham
  • follow signs for Oswestry (stay on the A483)
  • from the A483 follow signs to Shrewsbury joining the A5 southbound
  • as you approach Shrewsbury you will reach the A458 roundabout – take the 2nd exit (stay on A5)

From Welshpool, Newtown and the West (A458)
