2 March 2018
Many of our staff and volunteers have braved the elements over the past few days to get to work and provide the best possible care for our patients.
By midday today (Friday 2 March) we have been inundated with stories of staff walking miles to get to work. For example, Daisy Ambrose, a Staff Nurse on Ward 26 at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, walked over an hour to work on her day off so she could help her team—and before getting to work even found time to push a stranded car off the car park!
One of our senior nurses from the Women and Children’s Care Group used a combination of tractor, snowplough and foot to get to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital today (Friday 2 March). She’s even brought her overnight bag!
Despite the snow our Estates Team have done a great job of keeping our roads, paths and car parks clear to ensure patients and staff are able to navigate our hospital sites as safely as possible.
Armed Forces based in Shropshire have been ferrying our staff who have been stranded by the snow to work. They were put on standby at 11pm on Thursday 1 March and spent most of Friday bringing in staff including, medics and nurses from the most rural regions of Shropshire and Mid Wales.
While, Shrewsbury bar and restaurant Cromwells took to social media on Thursday to offer the use of their Land Rover to ferry our staff to work. As of midday today (Friday 2 March) they had completed 16 journeys to both RSH and PRH.
Thank you to everyone we have mentioned and all those we haven’t – #TeamSaTH #ThankYouNHS
