A nurse at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital who is constantly striving to raise patients’ morale has been recognised for his caring nature.
Wilf Cadelina, who works on Ward 28, received The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust’s (SaTH) monthly Values in Practice (VIP) Award after being described by his team as “an inspiration”.
Karen Henderson, a colleague who nominated Wilf for the award, said: “He actively raises morale on the ward and is a true unsung hero in the hospital.
“Wilf shows that it’s the little things that make the biggest difference: he often organises birthday celebrations and personal achievements by creating a private Facebook group to organise the team.
“Wilf is constantly looking at ways to improve patient experience and often will invest his own money into making sure that his patients are happy.”
Ginny Jones, Sister on Ward 28, added: “Wilf is a popular member of staff who is well liked by colleagues and patients alike.
“He has a lovely manner with the patients and gets a good rapport going with them. We have a Facebook page for the ward, and if someone on the ward has done well at something he will put it on there – he is always congratulating other people.”
SaTH introduced the VIP awards to celebrate the outstanding achievements and commitment of its staff to deliver high quality care to patients.
The awards are presented to the monthly winners by Chair Peter Latchford, at SaTH’s Trust Board meeting, to members of staff who have demonstrated the Trust’s Values: Proud to Care, Make it Happen, We Value Respect and Together We Achieve.
